AWAKENING

About.

Fashion Awakening is Christopher's latest Post Personal series currently in progress. The idea points to a deeper way to think about the self portrait or one's self image and/or identity.

Thousands of self portraits (selfies) are taken everyday with mobile devices and posted on social media platforms. Most seem intended to shout out "Look at me, here I am!" and typically represent a playfully stylized ego-driven performance aimed to make an outward impression.

This begs the question, what about the "inner impression," what does that look like? Well, imagine a new type of camera lens that could bypass the ego to capture the essence of being, a deeper self image that exists beneath the surface; that is, the awakened true self.

""Awakened selfies" is the idea behind these artworks and attempt to leave an inner impression of true consciousness, the soul if you will.

They are whimsically painted and depict

expressive radiant light along with fashionable articles of clothing to symbolize "The awakened self, dressed in style." The in style part is a playful way to put this concept into a context that is relevant in today's popular culture. In other words, it's "hip" to be awakened.

"Awakening is always in fashion , because true consciousness

is always."

- Christopher Gasper

"Awakening is always in fashion" is an artistic statement proclaiming that awakening never goes out of style. Unlike typical fashion trends, the state of being awakened is something that does not come and go nor fade away because it is always present.

Note: The basis of the idea for this series originated back in 2014 with the working title "You're Not What You Wear." This was inspired by the expression "You're not your thoughts or ego".
